Eco-Cycle's Schools Programs

Essential to Eco-Cycle's mission is teaching the next generation about recycling and the environment. Since 1987, Eco-Cycle has coordinated the Boulder County School Recycling and Environmental Education Program with funding from Boulder County, Boulder Valley School District, Eco-Cycle and various grant sources.

Congratulations to Cyndra Dietz, our School Recycling and Environmental Education Programs Director, for being this year's Pacesetter Winner in Education from the Camera!

Students throughout Boulder County have grown up with an unusual degree of environmental literacy thanks to Cyndra Dietz. She has worked as an environmental educator for 32 years, and since 1990 has directed the award-winning Boulder/Broomfield County School Recycling and Environmental Education Program, housed at Eco-Cycle.

In that time, she and her staff have presented over 20,000 classroom presentations and field trips (involving 520,000 students and staff), coordinated recycling collections for over 18,000,000 pounds of material and started the first Zero Waste schools program in America.

In this innovative new program, local schools focus on waste reduction projects and composting in addition to traditional recycling, putting the students, teachers and staff at these schools at the cutting edge of resource conservation as they work toward Zero Waste.
