Go Green at Hard Copy Recycling and EcoGifts

Where else can you get your printer cartridge refilled and shop for that one-of-a-kind eco gift? Hard Copy Recycling and EcoGifts has it all under one roof right in downtown Longmont. Refilling your printer cartridge makes good sense both for the environment and your wallet. You wouldn’t buy a new gas tank each time you got gas so why buy a new printing cartridge when it runs out? Instead, bring it to Hard Copy and tell them to “fill it up!” While there you can also shop for beautiful gifts and stationery made from recycled material. Hard Copy Recycling and EcoGifts is located at 454 Main St in Longmont, 303-772-2902. You can also get more information at www.infolongmont.com/comm/expert/hardcopy/.

Lush, Toxic-Free Lawns at Ecolawn

Do those pesticide flags on freshly sprayed lawns make you a little nervous? Well, they should. Many fertilizers and pesticides are known or suspected carcinogens, and children who play on the lawn are especially at risk. Play it safe with the folks at Ecolawn, a locally-owned company specializing in lawn care using organic fertilizer and aeration. These lawns are safe for people and pets - and there’s no chemical run-off into streams and rivers. They know the secret to a healthy lawn is not lots of chemicals but rather lush grass with a few clovers and an occasional dandelion. For more information, call Ecolawn at
720-839-5535 or visit their web site at www.4ecolawn.com.

In a Fix for Low-impact Household Fixtures?

Check out Positive Energy’s “Green Builder’s Catalog,” a compendium of hard-to-find energy saving and environmentally-safe products including low energy fans, on-demand water heaters, compact fluorescent light fixtures and even greenhouse kits. Positive Energy has been doing mail order sales since 1985, but times have changed and you can now see all their products at their web site, www.positive-energy.com. You can also do it the old fashioned way by asking for a catalog at 303-444-4340.

Green Glass, No Hass’

Green Glass USA specializes in the creation of distinctive recycled glassware fashioned by retooling and inverting reclaimed bottles. The process involves cutting off the neck of the bottle, turning the body of the bottle until it is smooth, attaching the inverted body to a base, and adding decorative etching and other touches. For more information on Green Glass USA, or to purchase Green Glass products, visit their web site at www.greenglassusa.com.

Get Your Electricity From the Wind

Now more than ever it’s important to support local, clean, sustainable sources for our power needs. It’s never been easier to switch your business or home from polluting, non-renewable energy sources such as oil, natural gas, and coal to Windsource, clean, renewable energy provided by wind farms in Colorado and Wyoming. Simply visit www.gogreenpower.com and sign up! No matter who your utility provider, everything you need to switch is provided on this web site.

Kudos for Waste-free Fast Food
If you choose to “eat in” at a restaurant or fast food joint, doesn’t it make sense that you should be given real eating utensils? Instead, some restaurants give you Styrofoam® cups and plastic forks that get used once and then are landfilled for eternity. Noodles & Co. and Wahoo’s Fish Taco are different. Both these restaurants use real plates, cups and forks. In addition, each customer gets just one napkin (with more available if needed). You also won’t find wasteful packets of ketchup or mustard at these places – condiments are served from dispensers. For customers requesting a “take-out” order, Noodles & Co. uses paper to-go containers instead of Styrofoam. Better yet, EcoCycle recommends bringing your own container for taking home food.
