The Boulder Drop-off Center to Move Later This Year

Boulder’s recycling drop-off center at 5351 E. Pearl Parkway will be packing up and moving approximately one mile east to 1901 63rd St, just north of the Arapahoe/63rd St. intersection (see map below). The drop-off center will be located at the new Boulder County Recycling Center. The new recycling center and the drop-off site are slated to open at the same time, though the exact date is still undetermined since it will depend on construction schedules and operational tests at the new facility.

The move should be a good one for Boulder recyclers. As many visitors to the city’s current drop-off center have noticed, the old center is too small to handle the ever-increasing volume of traffic. On a busy Saturday, over 1,000 vehicles roll through, frequently creating a waiting line. This won’t be a problem at the new drop-off center, which will have twice the number of parking spaces. Also, fewer trips to the center will be required when the new Boulder curbside program begins collecting more materials at the curb this fall.

To increase accessibility for everyone, including those in wheelchairs, the new drop-off center’s bins will be set in the ground at chest level. No more steps and platforms to navigate with arms full of recyclables! Another benefit is that there will be less chance for materials to blow in the wind; the drop-off center is adjacent to the processing center, allowing full bins to be easily emptied and quickly returned.
We’ll keep you posted on the exact opening date for the new drop-off center. Check the information kiosk at the current center for updates.
