Campaign Targets Hazardous Pesticide Chemicals
Concerned about the health and environmental impacts of common home-and-garden pesticides? Many such products are dangerous because they easily enter water supplies and are absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes of animals and children.
To help us choose more earth-friendly pest control, Eco-Cycle, the Boulder County Health Department, and Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) are launching a consumer education campaign at several Boulder County retailers. In early May, in-store "shelf-talkers" will provide information on the health and environmental impacts of several pesticide chemicals. Free copies of a pesticide alternatives brochure and Eco-Cycle's "Household Toxics: A Safe Environment Begins at Home" booklet will be available near the shelf-talkers.
If you're looking for pest control that you and the Earth can live with, watch for the "Read the Label First" initiative at these participating retailers: McGuckin Hardware (Boulder); Sutherlands (Boulder); Sturtz and Copeland (Boulder); Tree House Nursery (Boulder); Lafayette Florist (Lafayette); ACE Hardware (Longmont-two locations); and ACE Hardware (Nederland).
